Class Academic Profile

Hours of instruction: 2.25 hours/week for 8 weeks.

Practice tests: Diagnostic issued on first day of course, three additional tests administered throughout the course. Of the 21 students who took the 4/14 test, 16 took all four practice tests; three students missed one test, and two missed two.

Instruction materials: Students received a course textbook and two "study sheets" for math and English review.

Instruction method:

  • 60% lecture;
  • 30% in-class work on representative problems;
  • 10% timed drills;

Instruction content:

  • 80% content domain (e.g. grammar, geometry, algebra, reading strategies).
  • 15% test familiarization--primarily time management, but also specific questions types.
  • 5% general test-taking instruction--how tests work and what to expect.

Attendance: all students finished the class and either took the April ACT or are scheduled to take it in June. I didn't track attendance, but most students attended all 8 classes. Two students missed two or three sessions, a few others missed one session.
